아이엘츠 Academic Task 2 에세이쓰는거...어떻게 해야할지 고민하고 계신가요? 저도 처음 공부할때 에세이가 뭔지도 모르고 시작했습니다. 아이엘츠 점수 6.5, 7.0 등등 따야하는데 어떻게 할지 모르시는 분들을 위해 아주 기초적인것부터 포스팅을 해보려고 합니다.

안녕하세요 Chris 입니다.

 

아이엘츠 에쎄이 쓰기 진짜 막막하시죠. 그래도 연습할때는 시간이 넉넉하게 있어서 쓸만한데 시험때는 40분이라는 촉박함…...정말 막막합니다. 저도 똑같이 경험했습니다. 그런 취지에서 이 블로그를 통해 라이팅 에세이 구조 (Essay Structure)를 시리즈로 포스팅해보겠습니다. 

 

그러나, 계속 쓰기만 연습을 하면 안늘겠죠. 잘쓴 에세이를 찾아서 copy 와 re-writing 으로 늘릴수있지만 가장 첫번째는 아무래도 에세이의 근본적인 구조와 시험 유형을 파헤쳐 보는 게 아닌가 싶네요. 

 

그래서 오늘부터 몇개 블로그 포스팅을 시리즈로 IELTS Writing Task 2 유형들과 구조를 살펴볼껀데요 첫 블로그 포스팅으로 에세이 구조란 무엇이가 분석을 하며 살펴보겠습니다 .

아이엘츠 에세이 구조 - Essay Structure

 

Firstly, IELTS Academic Writing Task 2, also called “ IELTS Essay'' apart from Task 1, is  a very challenging and stressful task in the IELTS test. Therefore, to tackle this task, I think it’s best to go through essay structure.

 

(먼저 아이엘츠 아카데믹 라이팅 (Academic Writing )Task 2 또는 Essay 라고도 하죠. Task 1 과 더불어 Task 2는 학생분들이 많이 어려워 하는 부분입니다. 그래서 첫번째로는 무엇보다도 Essay Structure 를 살펴보는게 우선이라고 생각합니다.)

 

Before we practice writing, we have to make sure that we fully understand the structure of IELTS writing task 2. In fact, essay structure is fundamental and essential to presenting your argument coherently. You should come up with a set of ideas (e.g. I agree with A and disagree with B, This is a problem and therefore here’s the solution etc), and present this set of ideas coherently and cohesively which are also supported by evidence or other supporting statements (e.g. I agree with this view because it can reduce a large amount of pollution). Basically, most of the essays I have examined for many years have the following three basic parts; an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. Then, the body part can be split into two parts; a main body paragraph 1 and a main body paragraph 2. This is the basic essay structure that is used almost in any essay. Now, we have to find out what we should write in each paragraph in an essay. So, here, we’re going to take a look at how to structure an IELTS essay. 

 

(라이팅을 연습하기전에, 아이엘츠 라이팅 2 구조가 어떻게 구성되있습니다 완벽히 이해를 하는걸 꼭 알아두세요. 사실, 에세이 구조는 본인의 논의를 보여주기 위해 기초적이고 필수적인부분이라 할수있습니다. 본인이 에세이를 쓰기 위한 아이디어를 생각해놓고 그 아이디어들을 일관정있고 응집력있게 에세이에 표현해야합니다. 기본적으로 제가 몇년간 수많은 에세이를 분석하며 봐온 에세이들은 기본적으로 세 파트로 나누어 짐니다; 서론(introduction), 본론 (body), 결론 (conclusion).  그리고, 본론은으 다시 두개의 파트로 나누어 짐니다; 본론1 과 본론2. 이 구조는 거의 대부분 에세이에서 쓰이는 가장 기본적인 구조라 할수있겠습니다. 자 그럼 각각 paragraph 뭘 써야될지 알아보겠습니다.)

Introduction	Paraphrase Question & Give your opinion: 질문을 다른말로 바꾸어서 표현해야 합니다. 질문을 거의 똑같이 써버리면 안되겠죠. ‘Paraphrase'라는 것을 주목해주세요. Example It is sometimes argued that spending government budgets on the protection of wild animals is a futile measure because we humans have no need for them. Therefore, I completely disagree with this point of view.
Main Body 1	1- Topic Sentence: 찬성을 하는 의견이거나 반론을 제기하는 첫번째 의견의 포인트. Example There are several drawbacks of using mobile phones. A common criticism is that it causes distractions at work or school. 2- Explain Topic Sentence & Example: 반론을 제기한 첫번째 의견을 좀더 설명을 해야겠죠? 그 다음 뒷받침하는 문장 즉 이유나 예시를 제공함으로써 설득력을 높입니다. Example This is because the users constantly receive notifications from a variety of apps since the senders expect a quick response, and this will decrease their work or study productivity.
Main Body 2	1- Topic Sentence: 찬성을 하는 의견이거나 반론을 제기하는 두번째 의견의 포인트. 2- Explain Topic Sentence & Example: 반론을 제기한 첫번째 의견을 좀더 설명을 해야겠죠? 그 다음 뒷받침하는 문장 즉 이유나 예시를 제공함으로써 설득력을 높입니다.
Conclusion	Summary of main points and opinion Example In conclusion, I believe that every effort should be made to attract more international students. To do so, the government of each host country should allow international students to pay the same amount of tax and public transport as local students so it encourages more people from the rest of the world to study in the country.

*각각 예시 문장들은 여러 다른 토픽에서 따온것으로 맞추어서 보면 연관성이 없습니다. 이해를 돕기위해 제가 쓴 여러 다른 토픽에서 따온것입니다.

 

자 이제 에세기에 구조가 왜 중요하고 그 구조에 따라 어떤 단락들이 구성되어 있고, 각각 단락에 어떤 문장을 넣어야할지 감이 잡히셧나요?

 

Now, we have to apply what we have just learned so it sticks in our mind. Here’s a topic for essay writing. Comment below how you would structure this essay? (You don’t need to write a full essay).

영어를 공부는것은 계속 매일 쓰듯이 늘듯이 라이팅 역시 매일 지속적인 연습으로 라이팅을 개선할수있습니다. 정말 생각이안나고 막막하더라도 아무렇게나라고 위의 구조에 맞게 쓰는것을 적극 권유합니다.
