해리포터 1권 원서읽기 Chapter 4 - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone Vocabulary

영어원서 읽기 쉽지 않습니다. 계속적으로 블로그 포스팅을 처음 해리포터를 읽고자하는 분들을 위해 제가 완변한 단어장을 만들기위해 저번 포스팅에 이어 오늘은 Chapter 4 포스팅을 시작합니다.

 해리포터 영어원서 읽기

 

 

읽으면서 모르는 단어를 적고 한국말로 번역만해서 적어넣는 경우가 있는데요, 언어라는게 직역으로 해석이 잘 안될때가 있기때문에 관련사진이나 문장전체적인 해석과 그 단어의 다른 예시문을 덧붙였습니다.

 

Chapter 4  The Keeper of the Keys (열쇠들을를 지키는자)

 

Jerk (v) 갑자기 확 움직이다

Dudley jerked awake - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

 

Skidding 미끄러지다 (여기서는 삼촌 Vernon이 미끄러지듯이 들어왔다 라고 해석하면 될것같습니다)

Uncle Vernon came skidding into the room - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

The car went skidding off the road into a ditch (그 차가 미끄러지며 도로를 벗어나서 도랑에 쳐박혔다) 

 

Armed 무장한

"I warn you - I'm armed!" - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

Attempts to negotiate peace ended in armed revolt (평화 협상 시도는 무장 반란으로 끝이 났다)

 

Hinge 문의 경첩

it swung clean off its hinges and with a deafening crash landed flat on the floor - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

He daubed some grease on the door hinge (그는 문 경첩에 기름칠을 했다)

 

Mane 동물의 갈기, 사람의 숱 많은 털

His face was almost completely hidden by a long shaggy mane of hair and a wild, tangled beard - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

She tossed her loenine mane of hair indignantly  (그녀는 자신의 사자가 갈기같은 머리칼을 젖혔다)

 

Glint (v) 반짝거리다, 번득이다

....glinting like black beetles under all the hair. - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

He looked at me with eyes glinting fiercely (그는 번득이는 눈으로 무섭게 나를 바라봤다)

 

Stride (v) 성큼성큼 걷다

He strode over the sofa  - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

He strode across the road to beat the guy from the back (그는 그사람을 뒤에서 때리기 위해 성큼성큼 횡단보도를 건넜다)

 

Budge up (다른사람의 공간을 위해)움직여 주다, 비켜주다

 

Squeak (v) 끽 하는 소리를 내다

 

Crinkle (v) 주름을 내다, 찡그리다

Her face crinkled in bewilderment (그녀는 어리둥절함으로 얼굴을 찡그리고 있었다)

 

Rasping noise 끽끽거리는 소리

She was rasping on her violin (그녀는 바이올린을 끽끽거리고 있었다)

 

Tread on 발로 밟다 

...like a mouse being trodden on - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

He has had his foot trodden on by a cow (그의 발은 소에게 발로 밟혔다)

 

다음문장은 해그리드의 대화 문장인데요....해그리드 악센트를 스콧트랜드 악센트를 따온거라...저도 가끔 이해를 못하는 부분이 있어서 해석을 해봤습니다.

“I’d not say no ter summat stronger if yeh’ve got it, mind.” =>해석 I'd not say no to something stronger if you have got it, would you mind? Something stronger 뜻은 주류등의 조금 더 센 술이 있냐 물어보는 뜻

 

Damp (adj) 축축한

It filled the whole damp hut with flickering light - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

The warm damp air attracts a lot of mosquitoes (따뜻하고 축축한 공기는 많은 모기들을 끌어들인다)

 

해리포터 영어원서

(해리와 Dursley 가족이 묵었던 곳이 이런곳이 아닐까 상상 드네요)

 

Sag (v) 축 처지다, 늘어지다

the sofa sagged under his weight as he was sitting down - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

 

Fidget(v) 안절부절하다, 안달하다, 꼼지락거리다

...but as he slid the first six fat, juicy, slightly burnt sausages from the poker, Dudley fidgeted a little.  - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

The kids began to fidget with boredom (아이들은 지루해서 몸을 비비꼬기 시작했다)

 

Cowering 웅크리다

The Dursleys were cowering against the wall  - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

The hostages were coering in a corner (인질들은 구석에 움츠리고 있었다)

 

Growl 으르렁거리다 

he growled at the Durselys - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

The dog bared its teech and growled (그 개가 이빨을 드러내며 으르렁거렸다)

 

Bewildered 어리둥절하다,얼떨떨하다

Some of the questions bewildered me (몇몇 질문들은 나를 당황시켰다)

 

Quailed 겁을 먹다, 움추려들었다

A braver man than Vernon Dursley would have quailed under the furious look - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

The boy quailed at the dreary sight (소년은 그 음울한 광경을 보고 움츠려 들었다)

 

Ah, go boil yer heads = > go boil your heads 저리꺼져버려 정도 해석됨

 

Groan (고통, 짜증) 신음 소리를 내다

“A wizard, o’ course,” said Hagrid, sitting back down on the sofa, which groaned and sank even lower, “an’ a thumpin’ good ‘un, - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

 

Stammer 말을 더듬다

 

Ruffled 헝클어진

rather ruffled-looking owl - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

The bird ruffled up its feathers (새가 자기 깃털을 헝클어뜨렸다)

 

Clamped 꽉조여진

He had a bloody hankerchief clamped between his teeth (그는 이빨 사이에 피가뭍은 손수건을 꽉 물고있었다)

 

Dratted 괘씸한

How could you not be, my dratted sister being what she was?  - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

This dratted pen won't work (이 빌어먹을 펜이 써지지가 않아)

 

Scuttled 종종걸음을 치다

the Dursleys scuttled back to their corner. - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

We won't scuttle like rats in this war (우리는 이 전쟁에서 쥐 처럼 달아나지 않을 것입니다)

 

Gulp (v) 꿀꺽꿀꺽 삼키다

Hagrid gulped, but no words came out. - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

 

Foghorn (n) 기차화통, 고동 

He blew his nose with a sound like a foghorn. - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

 

Stump (v) 쩔쩔매게 (당황하게) 하다 

somethin’ about you stumped him, - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

He is stumped by an unexpected question (그는 기대하지못한 질문에 쩔쩔매했다)

 

Clout (v) 세게 떄리다, 강타하다 

He’d spent his life being clouted by Dudley - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

 

Whirl (v) 빙빙돌리다

Hagrid seized his umbrella and whirled it over his head, - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

I often wake in the night with worries whirling around my head and cannot go back to sleep (난 종종 내머리속에 빙빙돌고있는 걱정으로인해 밤에 깨곤하고 다시 잠을 청할수가 없다.)

 

Swish (v) 획소리를내며 움직이다, 휘두르다

He brought the umbrella swishing down through the air to point at Dudley - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

Elephants simply swish their big ears back and forth whenever they need a nice breeze (코끼리들은 신선한 바람이 필요할때마다 그저 그들의 큰 귀를 앞 뒤로 휘두른다)

 

Wriggle (v) 꿈틀거리다

“Don’ mind if it wriggles a bit, I think I still got a couple o’ doormice in one o’ the pockets.” - Harry Poter Sorcerer's Stone

She managed to wriggle free (그녀는 간신히 몸을 꿈틀거려 빠져 나갔다)
