아이엘츠 독학을 하시는분들을 위해 오늘부터 IELTS Academic Writing Task 1쓰기 과정 과 모범답안을 포스팅해보려합니다. 저도 아이엘츠 유학전에 과외를 잠시 본 경험도 있고 유학후 영주권을 위해 독학한 경험이 있어 아이엘츠를 혼자서 공부하시는 분들을 위해 포스팅을 시작 하게됬습니다 ^^

IELTS Academic Writing Task 1 에도 몇가지 유형들이 나오는데요, 오늘 첫 포스팅은 "Process Diagram" 즉 어떠한 설계나 공정과정등의 이미지를 주어져, 그 과정을 설명하는 유형을 살펴보겠습니다.
다음은 저의 쓰기 과정과 차례를 나열해보았습니다
1. What's the main task in this test?
2. Writing the first and second paragrpah (introduction and overview)
3. Writing the third paragraph
4. Writing the last paragraph

문제와 그림을 먼저 살펴보겠습니다
The diagrams below show the stages and equipment used in the cement-making process, and how cement is used to produce concrete for building purposes.
아이엘츠Writing Task 1 Diagram 문제와 그림에서 볼수있듯이 두가지의 과정을 그림으로 나타내져 있고, 첫번째 그림을 시멘트 제조 과정을, 두번째는 콘크리트 제조과정을 나타냈습니다. Introduction과 Overview 단락을 쓸때 이 두가지 그림이 무엇을 나타내는지 묘사를 하는게 중요할것같습니다. 첫번째 그림에서는 몇가지의 과정이 Cement Production에 관련되어 있는지, 두번째 그림에서는 어떻한 재료들이 포한되있는지에 초첨을 맞추면 될것같습니다.
2. Writing the first and second paragrpah (introduction and overview)
Introduction - First paragraph
The first diagram illurates the different 5 stages of cement production and the second diagram shows the materials that are used in concrete production.
Overview - Second paragraph
As can be seen in the first diagram, there are 5 steps involved in the cement manufacturing process, beginning with inputting raw materials and ending with packaging the final product. Also, to produce concrete, four different ingrediants including cement are mixed together.
첫번째 단락은 Introduction을 적었는데요, 주어진 문제 문장을 paraphrase 하면 될것같습니다. 그리고 다음 Overview 단락에서는 각각 그림이 나타내는 핵심적인 내용을 적었습니다.
3. Writing the third paragraph - Cement production
세번째과 네번째 단락에서는 공정과정을 좀 더 자세히 서술을 할껀데요, 서술하기전에 저는 보통 플랜을 짜고 서술을 들어갑니다. 사실 플래닝을 가장 먼저하고 introduction 과 overview를 써도 되고 아니면 먼저 그 두 단락을 써도 별 차이는 없어 보입니다.
그럼 플래닝에서는 과연 무엇을 해야할까요?
저는 보통 플래닝에서 단어와 문장등을 브레인스토밍하고, 자세하게 서술할 각각 단계들을 대충 나열을 시작합니다.
예를 들어서
Materials => Ingrediants, parts, elements, components
Mixing => Blending, mixture
Combine
Included, employed
Stages of cement production
Input of clay and limestone
Crushing those two and mixed together
Heating in a rotating heater
Ground
Finish with bagging the output
Five ingrediants are mixed in different proportion
Proportion => percentage, ratios
대략 이정도로 한 5분정도 안에 플래닝을 해주시면 세번째 네번째 단락을 쓸때 많이 수월해집니다.
Third paragraph
The complex process of cement production begins with combining limestone and clay and crushing them to a powder. The powder is mixed together then passes through a rotating heater. The heated mixture is then moved on a conveyer belt and ground to produce cement. At the final stage, the final output of cement production is packaged in bags.
4. Writing the fourth paragraph - Concrete production
마지막 단락은 두번째 그림인 Concrete production 을 서술 하도록 하겠습니다. Conconcrete production은 앞에 Cement production 과는 조금 다르게 단계별로 나타나 있지않습니다. 이그림의 몇가지 포인트들은 어떻한 재료들이 혼합비율로 들어가는지 주목해야 될것같습니다.
Fourth paragraph
Four different raw materials and its correct ratio of those four raw materials are employed in the process of producing concrete. Proportionally, the concrete mix should consist of 50% gravel, 25% sand, 15% cement and 10% water. The main stage of the concrete production takes place in a blending machine, called a concrete mixer where all the four ingrediants are combined together.
지금까지 IELTS Writing Academic Task 1 - Process diagram 쓰기 단계별로 살펴보았습니다. 위에 단계별로 똑같이 따라서 안해도 되지만 보통 단락별로 써 내려가는것이 자연스러울것같습니다.
